I'm still not sure about this situation. But it was a nice example how ubiquitous Blackberrys are: Flight LH71 from HAM to DUS. Message over the PA: "We've found a Blackberry. May the passengers check if they lost they phone?" At least half of the aircraft stuffing checks their bags or suit pockets but nobody stands up and asks for the phone. You really feel like a minority, when it can't be your phone because you simply don't have a Blackberry.

I assume that there was really a lost Blackberry, but this would be an interesting marketing gag ? In todays world everything is possible. A question just to show that almost all people important enough to fly are using a Blackberry? I don't need a fscking Crackberry, i have my Nokium

There is an old saying that you shouldn't write the laudatio for a day at it's beginning. I was happy about getting the flight this morning, but the problems started in DRS. As i had to get somewhere outside of Dresden, i was in need of a rental car, as it looked like a cab would be more expensive.

So i've tried to get a car from the rental company X. But they had just an S-class sedan. Thus i've opted for a different company and booked a car at the rental company Y. All was .... the problem started at the airport in Dresden: Rental Car company Y has no office at the airport. It just had an office at the town ... or to be exact: on the other side of the town. Damned. A cab? Well. I spend 10 Euro for a destination that is practially just on the other side on the airport (okay ... a little bit farther, but not much) ... for the money i would have to pay for the cab i would get a rental car. Rental Car company X they still hadn't a car ... no no-shows this day, but they offered me an other car ... will come later to it. Rental car company Z ... yes ... but just with summer tires. But i saw all that snow from the aircraft window. That wasn't really an option. Rental car company W ... the same. I looked at the cabs and thought "Damned ... i take the other car at company X". After a short discussion i got my car ... and this is the only positive about the situation: I've got an BMW X5 for almost the same price as the usual car.

Nice ... however i was half an hour late at the customer site (after getting the keys, going to the garage, learning how this automatic gear box can be forced in going forward. ). This was especially negative as this was planed as a short meeting anyway.

End of Rental company X soared in my view. Rental company Y ... well ... i will never try to book a car there again.

This will be a week with a lot of stress: Today completing two presentation. Tomorrow morning meeting in Hannover, then a customer meeting near hamburg at 14 o'clock. 19 o'clock HHOSUG presentation. On Wednesday meeting at 10 o'clock in Bremen, at 17 o'clock presentation in Berlin. Thursday meeting in Dresden, but because of strange airline pricing i won't fly directly, i will fly via Düsseldorf. Don't ask ... i couldn't believe it as well when the fares were displayed, this way it's cheaper and i don't have to wake up at 4:00 AM. Would be rather unamusing, when you get home at 23:00 the day before. But my CO2 balance will send me to hell. Friday ... 13 o'clock last presentation of this week, but that one is already finalized, as i wanted to hold it last Friday. So ... i may be possible that this week will be a rather quiet week in the blog.

Damned ... what a long day ... the second one this week. Monday was pretty much the same. Was in Berlin the last two days. As the own pillow is golden, i've decided drive back to Hamburg yesterday. The consequence: Leaving home at 06:30, getting back at 22:15. Both days. Somehow this was easier when i was 30 So sorry being silent in the blog yesterday

I knew i would be once confused by the big and the small S: Opensolaris SXCE (small S) won't have a build 128 as reported in this blog entry . OpenSolaris (capital S) will have an build 128 next week, thus you should see -128 packages in the next week. Small typo, big consequences. A big thank you to David Comay for the clarification.

Bisher war ja HAM-FRA so eine Monopolstrecke der Lufthansa. Das führte dazu, das man preisgünstiger nach New York kommen konnte als nach Frankfurt. Air Berlin will jetzt auf dieser Strecke mit der LH konkurrieren. Vielleicht führt das dann ja endlich mal zu etwas angemesseneren Preisen.

This was a rather long day. Could have been longer, our travel office tried to convince me that it would be a good idea to use the 19:25 flight from DRS to HAM. In that case i would boarding right now. After a meeting ending at 11:30. Thank you. But: No, thank you.

There weren't any seats in economy on the flight at 16:25.. It was friday and i assume, the flight was full of commuters. There was a business class seat, but Business is really fscking expensive and something for long distance trips. I'm collecting upgrade miles exactly for such trips. On short trips: not worth the money, same seats and the aircraft is in business as fast as in economy)

I was able to convince them to book a rather strange itinerary: 06:30 departure in HAM, 12:55 departure in DRS to ..... MUC ... and 14:05 departure from MUC to HAM. Due to the strange but neverending wisdom of the airline fare calculation department this was even cheaper than the normal direct flight in economy and i was earlier at home than usual. But this ruined my CO2 balance for quite a time. This will a big minus at the gate to heaven. On the other side ... i use trains, don't use my car to get to work. Perhaps i have a chance to avoid hell ... at least for this stuff.

At the moment i'm fscking tired ... i'm yawning since i left the airport ... my alarm clock ended my night at 04:00. Had to iron a shirt this morning. Just to add insult to injury: I was in bed at 11:30pm the day before. I'm getting old When i was less than 35 years old, i would go to Cinema now without yawning

Anscheinend ist endlich ein Ende des Wahnsinns in Sicht, die Leute nur mit Flüssigkeiten in 100ml-Mengen im Handgepäck reisen zu lassen. Dann kann man endlich auch wieder mit Handgepäck länger als einen Tag reisen, denn 100ml Duschgel sind bei 192cm ein echter Witz. Auf jeden Fall glaubt die Lufthansa, das dem Flüssigkeiten wegwerfen bald ein Ende gesetzt wird. Was für ein Problem das ist, sah man ganz gut nach dem Inkrafttreten dieser Regelung: Mülltonnen voll bis oben hin, vollgestellte Tische mit angebrochenen Wasserflaschen, zurückgeschickte Passagiere, weil die Frischhaltetüte nicht den Normen entsprach.

Das waren also zwei Tage auf der FrOSCon. Da ich einen Vortragsslot am Ende des letzten Tages hat, war ich die komplette Zeit da und habe Standdienst gemacht. War ganz spassig, es war weniger los als auf der CeBIT, man hatte also mehr Zeit für das einzelne Gespräch.

Aber vielleicht sollte ich erstmal mit dem Samstag anfangen. 4:30 aufstehen. Wie ich bei Twitter schon schrieb: TUIfly möchte die Passagiere schon 45 minuten vor dem Abflug am Boarding sehen. Ging denoch erst zwanzig Minuten vor Abflug mit dem Einsteigen los. Wie bei fast allen anderen Fluglinien auch. Hass, 25 Minuten weniger Schlaf .... müde. In Köln ankommen. Leihwagen geholt, positiv überrascht, A-Klasse mit Navi. Hätte ich mir auch das Ausdrucken der Wegbeschreibung sparen können. Am Flughafen in Köln gemerkt: Es gibt wirklich Menschen, die mit Kölner Dialekt sprechen. Musste mich echt zusammenreissen

Egal: Von 09:00 bis 15:00 Uhr Standdienst gemacht. Es kam nichts, an das man nach einigen Jahren CeBIT-Standdienst nicht schon gewöhnt wäre.

Am frühen Abend dann die Gelegenheit genutzt, endlich mal local kennenzulernen und zumindestens einen der Kaffees einzuloesen, die ich ihr schulde. Sehr angenehmer Mensch Hat sogar darüber hinweggesehen, das ich es schade fand, das sich ein Ballon über dem Rhein nicht für eine Landung im Fluss entschieden hat, obwohl wirklich nur so nen Meter gefehlt hat. Leider früh beendet, weil ich meinen Vortrag noch finalisieren musste ... aergerlich ... sollte damit wirklich mal früher anfangen, aber ich hab immer bis zur letzten Minute noch Ideen.

Dank Navi sehr schnell mein Hotel in Bonn gefunden. War positiv überrascht. Ich habe leider erst morgens erfahren, das die Minibar im Preis mit drin war. Nein, ich war nicht im Froscon-Sprecherhotel "Hotel Regina" ... ich hatte eigentlich eine Übernachtung bei Freunden geplant. Das hat aber eine Erkaeltung verhindert, die der Herr des Hauses wahrscheinlich wieder mit groesster Qual ertragen hat. Also musste ich mir am Tag vor der Froscon noch eine Unterkunft suchen.

Zweiter Tag ... eher weniger los an den Staenden, was Wunder auch bei diesem Wetter. Bei solchen Events ist Regen besser Längere Pausen zwischen den Events waeren auch nicht schlecht. Mein Vortrag war dann der am Sonntag um 17:45. Ich habe die Zeit voll ausgenutzt und war um 18:45 mit meinem Vortrag durch. Noch Fragen beantworten. Mir ist da übrigens etwas aufgefallen: Das was ich am anfang gesagt habe ist vollkommener Quatsch: Virtualbox hat keine vmtools.iso .... das ist etwas innerhalb von Parallels .... peinlich, peinlich. Das bitte also ignorieren. Der Vortrag an sich hat mir aber Spass gemacht. Ich werde diesen in den nächsten Tagen hier verlinken. Es gibt diesmal sogar eine Video- und Tonspur

Dann ziemlich expressiert auf die Strasse. Leihwagen am Flughafen zurueckgeben. Zum Zug laufen. Toll, den vorletzten Zug Richtung Hamburg verpasst. Ich hasse es, den absolut letzten Zug irgendwohin zu nehmen, denn die Anschlusserreichungsfähigkeit der Bahn ist legendär. 20:04 Richtung Köln Hbf. Im Starbucks Köln den City Mug für Bonn kaufen. Die haben da jetzt fast alle Mugs aus Deutschland. Das zaehlt nicht!

Bei Rheda-Wiedenbrück hielt dann der Zug auch erstmal für knapp 20 Minuten. Sehr beruhigend bei 12 Minuten Umstiegszeit. Selbstmordgefaerdete Person im Bahnhof Gütersloh. Anschlusszug in Hannover in Richtung Hamburg bekommen, da der Zug aus Richtung München auf Basis der Chinese Maybe Time verkehrte und auch seine 10 Minuten Verspätung hatte. Kurz nach eins in Hamburg, kurz nach halb zwei im Bett.

Alles in allem: Das Wochenende war anstrengend, aber gut Ich denke ich werde wohl auch nächstes Jahr wieder auf der Froscon zugegen sein, wenn man mich als Redner haben will ... aber ich nehm nicht wieder den letzten Slot des letzten Tages

TUIfly hat es echt in Rekordgeschwindigkeit geschafft mich zu nerven. Auf der Bordkarte steht "Boarding 45 Minuten vorher" ... Natuerlich begann Boarding 20 Minuten vorher ... wie ueberall sonst auch. Halbe Stunde Schlaf umsonst geopfert ,,,

I hope there will be a time, when my fellow passengers will understand, that the back of my seat isn´t a handle to put their tremendous weight into the seat or to forcing their weight out of the seat and thus catapulting me to the seat in front of me.

Did i mentioned so far, that i start to hate the FTL lounge in Dresden. Lost to many hours in this lounge. When you meeting ends on 12 or 13 o´clock you have at sit at least 3.5 to 2.5 hours waiting for your aircraft. Because of the even worser train connections to Hamburg, you are much later in at home, even when you give the train a 3-4 hours headstart. However: the DRS lounge is especially boring you can´t even look out of the window on the runway ... and even then: There aren´t many starting or landing flights here ...

I saw several referers from translating engines for the last two entries. Just to make it short: I had an especially bad day today. From the beginning to the end. This day was not only used, and there was left ony a little bit luck in it. It was an empty day, 100% luck free.

I´m sitting in the plane at the moment. And just to see a little microscopic bright spot in this day: I can add a new type of plane to my list. It's a Dornier 328 in the JET variant. Same chassis as the turboprob, but two jet turbines adjactent to the wings. At least it´s a fast plane: 45 minutes instead of 55 minutes and it accelerated like a sports car on the tarmac.

But that doesn't count much, when the take off is just three hours late. It was scheduled for an 19:45 take off. But it was more like 22:45. Boarding. By the way: It was a damaged plane ... it was the airport in Hamburg again. At least the first officer told us this subterfuge a few minutes ago. Dear Airport Hamburg, snow is a reality. Get over it and start to make decent plans for such situation.

PS: The text was written in the aircraft, but i had to be at home to send it. It´s now almost 00:30 of the next day. I´m finally at home. Good night.

Es ist alles nur Fassade. Staffage. Einfach nur ein äusserer Schein. Jene höchstens wenige Milimeter dicke Schicht verschiedener Gewebe, die wir auf unserer Haut tragen. Darunter sind wir alle nackt. Und so wie wie man sehr schnell aus dieser Kleidung schlüpfen kann, so kann man noch schneller die Rolle verlassen, die mit der Kleidung einhergeht. In vielen teuren Anzügen samt der teuren Schuhe und pastellfarbenen Hemden , in vielen Businesskostümen mit schwarzen Nylons und hochhackigen Schuhen, steckt doch letztlich nur ein Rüpel ohne Benehmen. Es reicht der kleinste Anlass um das schlechte Benehmen hervorzuholen, und sei es nur eine Schlange bei der Sicherheitskontrolle. Oder ist es nötig zu Drängeln, ueber Absperrungen zu krabbeln nur um einige wenige Momente schneller zu sein.

Only 45 flights this year ... thus it was a little bit harder to requalify for FTL. At the end it was the last flight of the year in conjunction with a retroactively submitted boarding pass. Reached it with the margin of a whisker. Now i´m FTL until 2012 ...



But i have no idea how to get 93.261 miles in just two days to reach Star Alliance Gold status .... Well, first class to New York and back should do it ... but that´s a little bit expensive for an airline status with dubious real benefit. But i assume, it´s impolite to write that into the message beneath the actual value.
