Has anyone thought about the possibility of one of those screening-devices getting hacked or the software getting trojaned?
Imagine the software contains a backdoor that recognizes a certain "beacon" and subsequently removes all "extra" object from the picture - after all, it can already remove genitals... As the guy who watches the image is off-site from the guy who sees the suspect, it could be pulled-off IMO. Did you read the report about trojaned supermarket credit-card terminals in the UK? Of course, it's impossible that something like this happens in the case of software for Homeland-Security. After all, the DHS has an absolutely spotless record when it comes to IT-security...
Yes, but it would be much harder to pull-off, IMO - because the people operating the metal-detectors can actually see (and most likely will touch) you.
Whereas in the case of the Terahertz scanners, you are not physically checked AFAIK (last time I flew was shortly before Richard "Showbomber" Reid made his appearance). But correct me if I'm wrong.
I just looked at my flight statistic ... iīve flew 169 times in the last 3 years. There is a simple rule: It beeps, they body-search you. It doesnīt beep, they leave you alone. I was only body-searched once without beep on a flight to the US some in 2006.
Letīs assume you carry a small transponder, switching of the beep , then you could carry everything into the controlled airport area thatīs not tooo large ... |
